Final Assignment

Poverty is “a human condition characterized by the sustained or chronic deprivation of the resources, capabilities, choices, security and power necessary for the enjoyment of an adequate standard of living and other civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.“

Poverty is a really strong issue at this time, at least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day. The causes are a lot, including lack of responsibility of each person, bad government policy, some combination of these and other factors. The silent killer is poverty, because that what it is, a killer. Poor people are more often to have diseases and illnesses, hunger, they live in very very bad and dangerous conditions; around 21,000 children die every day around the world.

Poverty is link with education, we keep asking why our country (any) doesn’t grow, well there are a lot of people in the world that don’t have access to education. Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. A very sad fact I that Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen. Government in every country should do something for that people, at least try to make people aware.

Hunger is a terrible symptom of world poverty, probably the worst. We get out of home, go to school or work, come back to home and we have food on our table. But what would happen if one day you come back to home and there’s nothing in your plate, that happens exactly the same the next day, and the next one. The gap between rich and poor people is huge, that’s why we cant think about that, that’s why sometimes we act so selfish and conceited.

It’s impossible to stop poverty all over the world, because it’s not that simple, but all can make some differences and stop being so selfish and stop pretending we don’t know about all those people. Make some donations to centers when they provide, food, water, clothes to the people who need it. If you have something you don’t use anymore of cloth that doesn’t fit you, don’t throw it to the garbage, give it to one person you see who really need it.

Article: Sell Out

WE, the young people, are growing in a very commercial world and we can’t stop that. Media sell us different ideas and ways to be free, to be creative, to be curious about life, unfortunately everything has a price, which in this case, is us. We get lost in this stereotypes and social ideals to “help us” find our identity. We see a famous with a new phone, and then we see one guy at school with that phone too and we think he’s so cool, in a few days everyone have that phone. Media affects us more than what we want to admit. We started to lose the interest of finding out things by ourselves, exploring and really appreciating other things than what media sell to us.

3 issues (I did this on my notebook but I lost the paper)

Water pollution
Air pollution
Deforestation

Those problems are HUGE, and have different causes, for example… overpopulation, industries, people that don’t care about the damage they are making to the planet. The effects are seen not only in the planet, but also in the animals and in us, humans. In the future there won’t be water for the next generations, there will be thousands of extinct species all over the world, no more landscapes.

We really need to pay attention to the solutions, so that way we can slow down the effects or stop it at all. Plant new trees and encourage people to do it, it’s a great way to help. Saving water and reusing it, for example the water you used for wash your hands or wash the dishes, you can use it for the toilet water. Make people aware of helping the environment, speak and create campaigns for industries that contaminate the air and water, make them be green and reduce their wastes for the good of the plante.

Confrontation

There was one girl named Lisa who lives with his mom and dad. They were a really nice and happy family, but it was almost the day when Lisa turn 16 and in their religion she needs to get engaged at that age.
The morning of her birthday, his dad was in the living room with a guy waiting for her. Her dad told her that he was her future husband so they have to meet and prepare everything for the weeding.

That afternoon, she was crying in her bedroom all day. Her mom noticed it, and asked her what was wrong, Lisa told her that she wasn’t ready to get marry and that she wants to be able to choose the person she will marry when the time comes. Her mom was really sad because watching her daughter cry every day and being so unhappy, really breaks her heart. She told Lisa that if she talk to her father, maybe he could change mind and respect her decision.

A few weeks later, Lisa confront her dad and told him that it was her life and no one can force her to do anything she doesn’t want to (of course in a respectful way). She explained to him all her feelings and that she was really scared, so after a long talk, his dad agreed to cancel the engagement.

How would you describe the way humans treat animals ? Should this change ?

I think that the question is too general, also there’s so hard to explain. There’re two ways to see the things, one is all the cruelty that the humans cause, and we violate animal rights. For example it’s wrong for humans to use animals for food, clothing, experiment or anything else, but other way to see it is that under some circumstances it is acceptable to exploit or use animals, as long as we ensure that the animals are treated humanely in the process.
I completely disagree with bullfights, and all kind of fights that involve animals. Those things are pure cruelty to the animals that are involve, they not only torture them, and they make fun of them. People that kill animals for “fun” just don’t understand and don’t realize that animal are alive and they can feel and suffer just like us.
Another sad issue is the fur in the fashion industry, every year millions of animals are killed for the clothing industry, all in the name of fashion. That’s not even close to a justify excuse, I mean is not like “Ok, we have to kill the animals because we need food”, no humans kill those poor animal just because fashion, to “look good”.
In an article I found that in May 2012, asked participants whether they considered wearing fur morally acceptable. Of the 1024 people included, 60% saw fur as morally acceptable–a 4% increase from the same poll taken one year earlier. However, in 2012, only 35% believed fur to be morally wrong–a 4% decrease from the 39% who were totally anti-fur in 2011.

I found a very good video about it, it’s a runaway with fur but kind of different.

We can make the change and I'm glad to say that this generation and hopefully the future ones, are aware of the huge difference we are making to all those innocent animals.
