Quotes

So this is the last essay and maybe one of my favorites, because I will talk about a little bit about what inspired and what John Green wants to share with us with his famous quotes.
Now you know a little bit about him because of my last essays, for examples he supports “nerds”, he called himself a nerd. He really is trying to change the point of view that young people have now (he writes for adolescents because he doesn´t think adults are very interesting) about what we like, the way we don’t care about learning new things, how society has changed our point of view.  Like this quote is so perfect to me, I mean this quote should be read by everyone:

“That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste.”
— John Green, Paper Town

He have different types of books but in almost all of them he tries to encourage ourselves to never give up and not because sometimes we had a problem, it means that we can’t get over it.
I recommend Paper Towns, I think everyone should read that book! He began writing it thinking about whether there was meaning to suffering, and how one can reconcile one’s self to a world where suffering is so unjustly distributed. And let’s be honest, we (teenagers) are in the phase when we believe everyone is against us, life is not fair, no one understand blah blah …

I can keep talking about him all day but the point is, the cool thing is that writers are free to express themselves, so they can go wild and write about anything they want. It can be about their new book, series, their life, imagination, etc.
I’ll put some of my favorite quotes from him, and I can’t imagine someone not loving this man, I mean just read the quotes.

“Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we're quoting.”
― John Green

“What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable?”
― John Green, An Abundance of Katherines

“I’m starting to realize that people lack good mirrors. It’s so hard for anyone to show us how we look, and so hard for us to show anyone how we feel.”
— John Green,Paper Towns

“Saying 'I notice you're a nerd' is like saying, 'Hey, I notice that you'd rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you'd rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan. Why is that?' In fact, it seems to me that most contemporary insults are pretty lame. Even 'lame' is kind of lame. Saying 'You're lame' is like saying 'You walk with a limp.' Yeah, whatever, so does 50 Cent, and he's done all right for himself.”
― John Green

“Those awful things are survivable because we are as indestructible as we believe ourselves to be.”
— John Green,Looking for Alaska

“At some point, you just pull off the band-aid, and it hurts, but then it’s over and you’re relieved.”
— John Green, Looking for Alaska

“That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste.”

— John Green, Paper Town

Exam

This is the next part of my essay, this is the last question I think...

I would change a lot of things but especially the media, the way they give us the infromation. Maybe they are telling us the truth but they mixed it up in a way that nobody undertstand it. Sometimes they don't even tell the truth because they accept money to shut up.
I'll talk Mexico in this, for example when the whole things about Peña Nieto were coming out. Televisa never said the truth, they changed everything about the story make him look "good".
I would like make everyone, not think like me, but just think by themselves and not only follow the others for what they listen or see. I would like to find a way to make them analize the siutations and don't let the people with power control us.

Vlogbrothers ? Nerdfighter ?

On July 18, 2007, Hank Green uploaded a video of himself playing and singing his song "Accio Deathly Hallows" in honor of the seventh Harry Potter book. This video was the first VlogBrothers video to make the front page of YouTube, and the starting point of the brothers' success as vloggers. The Brotherhood 2.0 Project ended on December 31, 2007. However, the brothers decided to continue uploading videos on YouTube due to having a growing fan base and their popularity. They continue vlogging even though the project had ended.Following the conclusion of Brotherhood 2.0, a website was set up for their community, known as nerdfighters.

A Nerd Fighter is a person who is proud to be nerdy and intelligent, and who fights to decrease WorldSuck. Nerdfighters have also been described as someone who is "Outgoing, intelligent and awesome enough to accept nerd as a compliment". The polar opposite of a Nerdfighter is a Decepticon.

Nerds who fight, usually against popular people. This term originated from the videoblog Brotherhood 2.0. John Green, one of the two participants in the videoblog, and his brother Hank Green, noticed a game called Nerd Fighters at an airport. Eventually, the viewers of the videoblog began being nerdfighters. Nerdfighters are considered to be "made of awesome" by John, Hank and other nerdfighters. The nerdfighters often send in pictures of nerdfighter related activities to the videoblog.

Their definition of Nerd Fighters is: "People who instead of being made up of cells and organs and stuff are actually made out of awesome. They fight decepticons on behalf of Nerds everywhere ! "

You can understand it better in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyQi79aYfxU

DFTBA means "Don't Forget To Be Awesome," the Green brothers create it and a hand sign (or "gang sign," as it is jokingly referred to by Hank and John). The Nerdfighter "gang sign" is the Vulcan salute from Star Trek done on both hands instead of just one, with arms crossed and palms facing inwards.

The fault in our stars

- Okay?
-Okay
Probably some people won’t understand that, but if you’ve read The Fault in Our Stars you will… It’s kind of a promise between the characters.

This is a story about a sixteen year-old girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster. She is diagnosed with Stage 4 thyroid cancer with metastasis forming in her lungs. She loves to read, and quote philosophers and also a fan girl of her favorite book "An Imperial Affliction",

Her parents sent her to a support group for children living with cancer, that’s exactly the place where she meets August Waters (Gus). This ia very charming guy who lost his right leg to osteosarcoma and is in remission.

After support group ends, Augustus invites her to watch a movie at his house. The two watch the movie, Hazel meets Augustus' parents, and Hazel shares with Augustus her favorite book, "An Imperial Affliction" (as I mention before) The book becomes a point of bonding for them, and Hazel and Augustus begin to spend more time together.

This story is kind of “based on a real story”, John Green had a really good inspiration for this book, and her name is Esther Earl.
Esther is a girl he met in a Harry Potter convention with his brother Hank. They were dancing when she came to him and asked him for a photo. He saw a girl wearing a nasal cannula and a nearly identical girl (her twin) holding an oxygen tank. (Hazel Grace also has a nasal cannula)
Since that moment they became friends, they talked for a while and weeks later they were talking by Skype almost every week. He found out that she wasn’t just a viewer of their videos, she was a hardcore nerdfighter. Who fight for nerds and celebrate intellectualism, Esther had been watching them for years.

Just before her dead he mentions that she told him her happiest memory.
“It had occurred when she was hospitalized with pneumonia and thought to be dying. She spoke about having her whole family around her, holding hands with them, feeling connected to these people who loved her infinitely. She used that word at some point referring to her family’s love, infinite, and I thought about how infinity is not a large number.” – John Green

Now every time he talks with the media about this books he always try to say that The Fault in Our Stars, it is dedicated to Esther, is not about her.

*I want to mention that I didn’t write a lot about the book because maybe you’ll read it (or maybe not) and because I haven’t finished the book, I’m missing 2 chapters.*

Who is John Green ?

He is an American author of and a video blogger. His full name is John Michael Green, he has one brother, Hank Green. They both have a Youtube called Vlogsbrothers where they have loyal fans called Nerdfighters and what they do is basically fight for intellectualism and to decrease the overall worldwide level of suck (That’s exactly the way they said it). He grew up in Orlando. He graduated from Kenyon College in 2000 with a double major in English and Religious Studies.

His first book is Looking for Alaska (based on his own boarding school experience). He lived in New York City for two years while his wife attended graduate school.

One of his best work is the book The Fault in our Stars, which was released in 2012, he agreed to sign all 150,000 copies of the first printing, as well as his wife and his brother leaving their own symbols, a Yeti and an Anglerfish respectively. The New York Times Best Seller List for Children's Books listed the book at #1 within weeks.

One thing I really like about him is the way he creates characters, he really brings them to life, they are so complete and each character has a really good background context. My two favorites are Hazel Grace and August Waters. These characters were inspired in young people they’ve known who were seriously ill and they were very funny and vibrant and hopeful people, but they were also honest and often very angry so he wanted to try to capture that.

Green currently lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with his wife, Sarah, his son Henry, and his dog, a West Highland Terrier, named Willy (full name Fireball Wilson Roberts). For every person who enjoys reading, his books are great for all ages but mostly young adults.
